Ella: Embracing Sexuality and Disability with Confidence

ella is a bisexual

Ella, a social media influencer living with a disability, is reshaping perceptions around dating and disability, advocating that being disabled does not diminish one's allure or dating prospects. "Being disabled doesn't preclude me from dating," she asserts, challenging conventional views on disability and attractiveness.

Suffering an injury from a horse-riding accident at age 11, Ella lives with dystonia, a complex neurological condition that disrupts brain signals and affects muscles and nerves throughout the body. This leads to symptoms like tremors, brain fog, loss of movement and sensation, and body curling. Despite these challenges, Ella faces misinformed criticism online, with some accusing her of seeking attention. She firmly counters this ignorance, asserting the reality of her condition.

Ella's journey in embracing her bisexuality was gradual. "It wasn't an overnight realization," she shares, adding humorously, "I find both women and men attractive, and I'm proud to acknowledge and talk about it." Prior to understanding her sexuality, she recalls perceiving women as attractive but in a way that differed from her friends.

Navigating the dating world presents its unique challenges for Ella, compounded by her disability and bisexuality. "Dating is complex. I deal with the challenges of being legless and bisexual – and it shouldn't be this hard," she states. However, Ella finds strength in her vulnerability, especially during a recent hospital stay, which led to a profound self-acceptance. "I discovered my confidence when I was at my most vulnerable," she reflects.

Ella takes pride in her identity, celebrating her scars, acne, and pale skin as parts of her unique story. She passionately advocates for the perception of disability as an embodiment of unique abilities and love. "Being disabled can be sexy and unique. Loving yourself is the most empowering thing," Ella affirms, inspiring others to embrace their identities with confidence and pride. Her message challenges societal norms and encourages a broader understanding and acceptance of the intersectionality of disability and sexuality.
